Dental Implants

Dental implants are used to replace single, or multiple teeth in the upper or lower jaw. The standard used implant is called an endosteal implant. This implant is usually screw-shaped and anchors into the bone. Teeth are later connected to the top of the implant after integration.

There is typically a period where implants need to rest and integrate with the bone, this is called osseointegration. This usually takes between four to six months. There are scenarios where implants are loaded or restored immediately with temporary teeth, however, this puts the implant at higher risk of failure.

Also, adequate gum tissue around the implant is necessary for a healthy implant. This tissue protects the implant from infection. Implant placements sometimes require bone or tissue grafting.
